“Mum, what’s that on the window sill?”
“A jar of batteries.”
“Yes, I know what it is but…”
“Why ask then?”
“I mean, why have you got a jar of batteries?”
Tim looked at his wife, she frowned and whispered, “Not before Christmas Tim, we’ll look at homes after the holiday.”
“You never know when you’re going to need a battery.”
“Not a jar full though mum. There must be more essential things to spend your pension on.”
On Christmas morning the children gleefully opened their presents, every box emblazoned with the words “Batteries not included.”
Grandma fetched the jar.
